Our Surgical Services

Spay and Neuter

Spaying and neutering prevent unplanned litters and protect your pet’s long-term health. Spaying removes the ovaries and uterus, protecting female dogs and cats from mammary cancer and pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection. Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer, reduces prostate problems, and can curb roaming and marking in males. Most dogs benefit from surgery between six and twelve months of age, most pets go home the same day, and canine spays range from $650 to $1,100 and neuters from $600 to $900.

Soft Tissue and Foreign Body Surgery

Soft tissue surgery includes any procedure not involving bone, such as mass removals, bladder stone removal (cystotomy), splenectomy, and gastropexy. It also includes urgent foreign body surgery to remove swallowed objects before they cause serious damage. If you suspect your pet swallowed something, contact us immediately.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery addresses bone and joint problems such as cruciate ligament tears, fractures, hip dysplasia, and patellar luxation. We partner with a traveling, board-certified orthopedic surgeon who performs these procedures at our Montgomery facility, so your pet can have specialized surgery without a trip to a distant specialty center.

How We Keep Surgical Patients Safe

Pre-Surgical Screening

Every surgery starts with a physical exam and a review of your pet’s medical history. Pre-anesthetic blood work confirms the liver and kidneys can safely process anesthesia and checks for anemia or clotting problems. Every surgical patient also receives a pre-anesthetic EKG reviewed by a cardiologist to detect heart rhythm problems before anesthesia. When needed, X-rays or ultrasound help us plan the procedure.

Dedicated Anesthesia Monitoring

One technician focuses solely on monitoring your pet throughout surgery. We track heart rate and rhythm with EKG, blood oxygen with pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and end-tidal CO2 to confirm proper breathing. These safety measures apply to every procedure, from routine neuters to complex surgeries.

Pain Management and Recovery

We use multimodal pain control, giving pain relief before the first incision and continuing it through recovery. Before your pet goes home, we provide pain medications and clear instructions on activity restriction, incision care, and follow-up visits. Most procedures require 10 to 14 days of restricted activity while incisions heal.
