Digital Radiography (X-rays) in Montgomery, TX
When your dog or cat experiences sudden limping, unexplained weight loss, or persistent vomiting, the answers often lie beneath the surface where eyes alone cannot reach. Digital radiography transforms invisible concerns into clear, actionable insights that guide your pet toward wellness.
At Fish Creek Animal Hospital, our team uses advanced digital X-ray technology to diagnose conditions quickly and accurately for pets throughout Montgomery, Conroe, Magnolia, and beyond. Our veterinary services include state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging that helps us see exactly what is happening inside your pet’s body, allowing us to create targeted treatment plans that address their specific needs.
What Is Digital Radiography?
Digital radiography represents a significant advancement over traditional film-based X-rays. Instead of using photographic film, our digital system employs flat panel detectors that convert X-ray beams into electrical signals, which are then transformed into high-resolution images viewable immediately on a computer monitor. This technology allows our veterinarians to examine your pet’s cardiovascular, digestive, reproductive, musculoskeletal, and urinary systems with remarkable clarity.
The process is swift and minimally invasive. Your pet is positioned on our digital X-ray table, and within seconds of exposure, we can view detailed images of their internal structures. According to research published by the National Institutes of Health, digital radiography has been rapidly adopted in veterinary medicine because images can be adjusted using dedicated software to maximize diagnostic image quality.
Conditions Diagnosed Through Digital X-rays
Digital radiography serves as one of our most valuable diagnostic tools at our veterinary hospital. We use this technology to identify fractures, detect tumors, evaluate organ size and position, diagnose arthritis and joint problems, locate foreign objects your pet may have swallowed, and assess dental disease beneath the gum line.
Beyond the Obvious
While broken bones are clearly visible on X-rays, many conditions require a trained eye to interpret. Our veterinarians look for subtle changes in organ density, unusual fluid accumulations, or variations in bone structure that might indicate disease in its early stages. This comprehensive evaluation means we can often catch problems before they become serious.
The Digital Advantage for Your Pet
Traditional X-ray systems require chemical processing and can take considerable time to produce viewable images. Our digital system eliminates these delays entirely. The moment we capture an image, we can review it, adjust brightness and contrast as needed, and discuss findings with you during the same appointment.
Reduced Radiation Exposure
Digital radiography exposes your pet to significantly less radiation compared to conventional film-based systems. The technology requires fewer retakes because we can adjust image quality after capture, rather than repositioning your pet and starting over. This means less stress for your companion and enhanced safety for both your pet and our staff.
Faster Diagnosis, Faster Treatment
When your pet is ill or injured, time matters. Our digital system allows us to evaluate their condition immediately, which means we can begin treatment sooner. If we need a second opinion from a specialist, we can transmit digital images electronically for rapid consultation, ensuring your pet receives the expert care they need without delay.

What to Expect During Your Pet's X-ray Appointment
Most pets remain awake during radiographic procedures. Our veterinary team will position your pet carefully to capture the best possible images of the area we need to examine. For some views, particularly of the abdomen or chest, we may ask you to step out briefly while we take the X-ray to protect you from radiation exposure.
Certain studies, such as dental X-rays or images requiring very precise positioning, may necessitate sedation or anesthesia to keep your pet completely still and ensure diagnostic-quality images. If this is the case, we will discuss the process with you beforehand, including any pre-procedure fasting requirements. Rest assured that we use an EKG screen to ensure safety during anesthesia, monitoring your pet’s heart function throughout the procedure.
Digital Imaging as Part of Comprehensive Care
Digital radiography represents just one component of our diagnostic services at Fish Creek Animal Hospital. We combine X-ray findings with physical examination results, laboratory work, and sometimes ultrasound imaging to build a complete picture of your pet’s health. This multi-faceted approach ensures we understand not just what we see on the X-ray, but how it fits into your pet’s overall condition.
When we review X-ray results with you, we take the time to explain what we see and what it means for your pet’s treatment. You will never leave our office wondering what comes next or feeling uncertain about your pet’s diagnosis.
Why Choose Fish Creek Animal Hospital for Digital Radiography?
Our privately owned practice has served the Montgomery community for four and a half years, building relationships with neighbors from Woodforest, Conroe, Magnolia, and surrounding areas. Dr. Kevin Wheeler founded Fish Creek Animal Hospital with the vision of providing personalized, high-quality veterinary care that feels less like a corporate clinic and more like visiting a trusted friend.
Dr. Wheeler’s professional interests include preventive medicine and internal medicine, areas where diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role. He is joined by Dr. Melissa Pawlowski, a Texas A&M graduate whose special interests include internal medicine, dentistry, and radiology, and Dr. Lauren Crenshaw, also a Texas A&M graduate, who is dedicated to building life-long connections with clients. Additionally, the majority of our staff are native locals, and two of our veterinarians are Texas natives, which means we understand the unique needs of pets in our area.
